Rose – Lemon Cocktail

February 1, 2017

I’m all about supporting other creatives!  That’s why I’m so excited to introduce you to Abigail Ballanger!  We convocated from Ryerson together last year.  Her creative skills are something I’ve always admired so when we started talking about collaborating, I was excited to hear she wanted to share some of her creative juices with you over here on Sare City!  Now enough of my chit chat, here a few words from Abigail about a sweet floral infused cocktail, just in time for Valentine’s Day!

One aspect of Valentine’s Day has always remained constant for me year after year, whether I am in a relationship or single. I’m sure you’re thinking, it’s an obvious, chocolate. Not for this girl, the one constant for me is flowers.

During the cooler months, it may feel like the only way of incorporating flowers into our daily routines is the obvious, a bouquet. It may be the simplest way of telling someone you care, but rather why not change it up.  The perfect way of incorporating those floral delights is in a floral infused cocktail (with or without alcohol). One of my favourite floral flavours is rose water. Not only can you cook with it but you can include it in a ton of different beverages. Be wary though, rose water can be STRONG, you only need a little.

This Valentine’s Day, why not show your loved one or your gal pals the perfect bouquet of flowers that they can not only smell but drink too. The following recipe is easy, results in a beautiful drink and is the ultimate Valentine’s Day gift!

  • 1 tablespoons rose water
  • 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
  • 1 1/2-2 ounces vodka (omit to make a mocktail!)
  • 2 tablespoon honey, or to taste (I used agave to make it vegan)
  • 2 tablespoons blood orange or pomegranate juice, for color
  • sparkling rose to taste (or sparkling water for a mocktail)
  • fresh flowers and lemon for garnish
  • ice cubes

Combine the rose water, fresh lemon juice, vodka, honey and blood orange or pomegranate juice in a cocktail shaker and fill with ice. Shake until combined and then strain into a glass. Pour in the sparkling rose. Garnish with flowers and lemon. ENJOY!

174a9566Can you believe it’s that time of year again? Time to shop until you drop…or you need a glass of vino, whichever comes first.  Don’t get me wrong, I love shopping in a crowd but this year you will likely find me shopping the deals in my pjs at my computer.  The amount of discounts out there can definitely be overwhelming.  That’s why I’ve created lists, using my three favourite topics, so I know what I’m on the hunt for this year when it comes to the chaos.  Shop these goodies below! Happy shopping!

Home Sweet Home: A First Look

November 1, 2016

Welcome to our sweet little home.  It has just about been a month since Kyle and I moved in to our new place and we absolutely love it!  Although it may be just a small 850 square feet, it is the perfect size for just us two.  And yes, the place may still seem a little empty at the moment in terms of decor but we’ve got decorating plans well under way.  Just the other day we bought an area rug for our living room, now we just have to decide if it’s the perfect fit (I am SO picky when it comes to what decor stays in our house, I’ve done so many returns in the past month…eek).

Trademark Homes did an amazing job of bringing our vision to life.  Though they did have a base layout, but we were able to customize it to make it perfectly ours.  We love our white kitchen with quartz countertops and our big (not pictured) walk in closet with just the right amount of storage for my surplus of clothing.  I couldn’t ask for a more perfect place to call home sweet home.

Looking forward to showing you the various room decor along the way–stay tuned!
